Last Thursday, Coljuegos subscribed the 15th concession contract that allows online sports bets to be operated, with Meridian Gaming Colombia S.A.S.
The company will work under the domain www.meridianbet.com.co.
Meridian is based in Malta and operates B2C and B2B in Europe since 1988, the company is specialized in the sports betting and began to expand to South America, Africa and Asia some years ago.
In addition to online operations, Meridian also operates more than 600 retail betting outlets throughout the world through its Bet Shop Manager product.
This is the third license that Coljuegos has issued this month, after Alfabet and Teclino. The president of Coljuegos, Juan Pérez Hidalgo, reiterated his prediction that the market will have 17 licensees approved online before the end of the year.
Meanwhile, the effort to restrict the access of Colombian users to betting sites with an international license seems to be increasing. Last week, Coljuegos announced that its blacklist of unauthorized gaming domains had reached 1,805, thanks to cooperation with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies, the Cyber Police Center and local Internet service providers.
The number of domains included in the blacklist has increased rapidly since Coljuegos first identified around 325 offending sites before the launch of Colombia's online regulated market. The dubious honor of the first officially blocked site was for Play2wincasino licensed from Curaçao.
To date, Coljuegos says that Colombians have opened 1,267,018 accounts with their online licensees, compared to 977,000 that they reported in July.
