Dominican Republic Strengthens Responsible Gaming with New Regulations and Taxation Measures

Published date: 2025-03-19

The Dominican Republic is reinforcing responsible gaming through stricter regulations and taxation policies. Attorney Yamile Gutiérrez, a founding partner of G&G Studio Legal, emphasizes the importance of safeguarding players and promoting industry integrity. She supports initiatives such as self-limitation tools, collaboration between operators and regulators, and stronger enforcement against underage gambling.

A key milestone is Resolution No. 136-2024, issued by the Ministry of Finance on March 14, 2024, which regulates online gambling. This resolution mandates that operators implement responsible gaming measures, including session duration displays, betting limits, and self-exclusion options. Additionally, operators must pay a 5% gross revenue tax and an annual licensing fee of $200,000.

The Directorate of Casinos and Gaming (DCJA) has also intensified efforts against illegal sports betting, urging players to use only licensed platforms. The government estimates that illegal gambling activities result in $40 million in lost tax revenue annually. To combat this, authorities have increased inspections and legal actions against unlicensed operators.

These measures highlight the Dominican Republic’s commitment to a secure and regulated gaming industry, balancing player protection with economic benefits through taxation and compliance.
