Stake.us just can't catch a break. The controversial sweepstakes casino—often parading as a harmless "social gaming platform"—has been hit with yet another lawsuit, this time in the state of Illinois.
The class action was filed by Breaydn Urban, who claims that Stake.us is essentially operating as an illegal online casino, disguising real gambling mechanics behind a playful social casino façade. The suit was lodged in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and Urban is representing not only himself, but also others who may have been misled by the platform’s tactics.

This is the second lawsuit in less than two months. In California, Stake.us was already under fire for allegedly skirting gaming regulations with its sweepstakes-style betting model. Plaintiffs in both cases argue that the platform violates state gambling laws by offering real-money wagering without a license, despite advertising itself as risk-free entertainment.

What’s more, the lawsuit claims Stake.us is simply a rebranded mirror of Stake.com, a crypto-based gambling site banned in several U.S. jurisdictions. The name change, plaintiffs argue, is a deliberate smokescreen to dupe regulators and consumers alike. With the legal pressure mounting, Stake.us may soon find its "social casino" charm wearing thin in courtrooms nationwide.
