Bavaria’s largest casino, Bad Wiessee, continued its path out of the Covid pandemic in 2023, generating gross gaming revenue of just under €38m, up 13.37 per cent from the €33.5m earned last year.

More than just surpassing the casino’s pre-pandemic revenues, last year’s total was the highest since 2007. Attendence was up to 158,100 guests, compared to 127,969 the year before, marking a rise of 23.5 per cent. The surge in revenue provided gaming tax to Wiessee’s municipal budget of €699.2m.

Casino director Margit Hirsch said: “People appreciate serious gambling and feel that they are in good and safe hands with us.”

Slots accounted for 79.63 per cent of the casino’s GGR with roulette, blackjack and poker, however, Ms Hirsch describes the casino as ‘a roulette casino.’ She also highlighted the role that cultural events held in the Winner’s Lounge played. “The events have established themselves and now have a solid fan base. We had a large turnout, six out of eight events were sold out,” she said.

The overall result of the nine casinos in the Free State in 2023 was described as ‘very remarkable’ by Bavaria’s Minister of Finance and Home Affairs, Albert Füracker,(pictured) coming in at €124.1m. In total, the nine casinos welcomed more than 668,000 guests.
