The Dirección General de Casinos (DGC), under Uruguay's Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), has approved the establishment of a new casino in Maldonado. This initiative aims to enhance the local entertainment landscape and boost economic growth.

The casino will be strategically located within the Atlántico Shopping center, a modern commercial hub inaugurated in December 2023. Situated just a few blocks from Maldonado's city center and the bus terminal, this venue offers a prime location for attracting both locals and tourists. The shopping center spans 20,000 square meters of commercial space and is part of a larger complex that includes plans for four additional towers, representing a total investment exceeding USD 200 million.

The DGC has allocated approximately UYU 38 million (around USD 896,000) for the casino's construction, with the contract awarded to the construction firm MTA S.A. This slot-only gaming facility will feature 80 state-of-the-art slot machines, providing a modern and engaging gaming experience. Projections from the MEF suggest that the investment will be recouped within a minimum of two years, underscoring the project's financial viability.
The lease agreement for the casino space spans five years, with an automatic extension for an additional two years. Monthly expenses, including common costs, are estimated at UYU 90,000 (approximately USD 2,124). Currently, the DGC is soliciting bids for ancillary services such as bar operations, cafeteria management, confectionery services, security, and reception for the upcoming gaming hall.
This development is poised to invigorate Maldonado's entertainment offerings, attract tourism, and stimulate the local economy. The integration of the casino within the Atlántico Shopping center is anticipated to create a synergistic effect, benefiting both the retail environment and the broader community.
