Extortions menace the Colombian gambling industry, and Coljuegos don´t do nothing

Published date: 2024-11-13

Once again the Games of Chance industry is in mourning; in the early hours of yesterday we received the tragic news of the videos circulating about the murder of the saleswoman Marlen Mozo of SuperGiros in Bosconia (Cesar), a regrettable and reprehensible event that has brought mourning to the family of a single mother.

the operators of Barranquilla, Cartagena and Valledupar are those who are suffering most intensely from the attacks of these criminals who unscrupulously demand everything from motorcycles to apartments in exchange for not attacking them or their businesses.

A study published by the security agency for crime prevention showed an alarming 48% of businesses that are extorted in strata 1,2,3 and of these 58% of the Games of Luck and Chance that operate there are victims of some type of crime, whether robbery or extortion.

The reputation that casinos have for being a source of instant wealth is a magnet for these deplorable acts that for some years now have affected Coljuegos' income from games located in these main cities.

This is an explanation (but not a justification) of why the high degree of illegality on the Atlantic coast, which, due to the lack of guarantees and presence of the state, is "inspected" by bandits who, under the slogan of silver or lead, take the taxes that should be for health under penalty of attacking companies by declaring them targets.

It seems that with the arrival of people from Venezuela there has also come an increase in extortions, especially on the Atlantic coast, Antioquia and Valle del Cauca; And I say it seems because this is a long-standing crime that has existed for decades, and our industry has never been immune to this scourge.

Localized games have been victims of this scourge, and it is somewhat painful that only now Coljuegos has spoken out, in addition to the death of Mozo, ignoring the losses in general of the Industry.

I sincerely hope and urge Dr. Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos, so that as part of the pacts for legality that the entity and he have signed personally, protection mechanisms are guaranteed and generated for our businesses, and not only for chance or his close circle; this is part of the work that he must do as a regulator; not only that of coercion.

We are all one and no death is less important than another. Coljuegos
