Megaworld accelerates hotel and gaming expansion in the Philippines

Published date: 2026-05-21

Megaworld Corporation has announced the opening of six new hotels across the Philippines before 2029, a major expansion expected to strengthen the country’s tourism, corporate and entertainment capacity amid the rapid growth of gaming and integrated resorts in Asia. The plan includes nearly 2,000 new rooms across Manila, Pampanga, Palawan, Laguna and Bacolod, positioning the company as one of the most aggressive players in the Philippine hospitality market.

The new developments include ArcoVia Hotel in Pasig City, Savoy Capital Town in Pampanga, The Hamptons Hotel in Laguna, as well as Paragua Sands Hotel and Savoy Hotel Palawan inside the massive Paragua Coastown development in San Vicente, Palawan. The company will also launch The Kingsford in Bacolod City. Two of the hotels will be integrated into a 462-hectare coastal tourism development in Palawan focused on premium tourism and entertainment.

The expansion is being led by Megaworld Corporation under the leadership of CEO and president Lourdes T. Gutierrez-Alfonso. The company belongs to the Alliance Global Group ecosystem linked to businessman Andrew Tan, which also maintains strong exposure to gaming through Newport World Resorts and Travellers International.

Megaworld allocated approximately ₱65 billion in capital expenditures for 2026, while the Philippine hotel market is projected to receive more than ₱250 billion in new developments over the coming years. The group already operates in Entertainment City, Manila Bay, where it opened the Grand Westside Hotel, currently the largest hotel in the Philippines with 1,531 rooms.

The country welcomed approximately 6.48 million international tourists in 2025 and generated around ₱694 billion in tourism revenue, while the gaming industry under the supervision of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation is projecting gross gaming revenue of up to ₱480 billion, driven by integrated resorts, e-games and premium tourism. For Megaworld, hotel growth is not just about adding rooms, it is about capturing more corporate traffic, conventions, luxury tourism and spending tied to the expanding Philippine gaming ecosystem.
