- Mexico is not planning a new casino law, it is not true

The gaming and lottery industry in Mexico is a significant source of revenue for the country. Recent data indicates that casinos contribute approximately 12 billion pesos annually in taxes, including special gambling taxes, VAT, income taxes, state taxes, and contributions to the Ministry of the Interior.

Modernizing the Federal Gaming and Lottery Law, enacted in 1946, is a recognized need by both the government and sector operators. The current legislation requires updates to adapt to technological advancements and the contemporary digital market. Proposals include integrating hotels and casinos into key tourist destinations like Cancun, Los Cabos, and Acapulco to boost local tourism and economies.

The Ministry of the Interior, through its Directorate-General for Gaming and Lotteries, oversees authorizing, controlling, and monitoring gambling and lottery activities in Mexico. The agency is committed to continuing collaboration with licensees and operators to strengthen regulations, promote transparency, and combat illegal gambling, ensuring a safer and more reliable sector for consumers.

This meeting led by Rosa Icela Rodríguez reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to effectively modernizing and regulating the gaming and lottery sector in Mexico, promoting a zero-corruption environment while adapting to the evolving market needs.
