The president of Coljuegos, César Augusto Valencia Galiano, released the report of the gambling sector for the month of May and praised the good moment this industry is going through in the country, highlighting that in the fifth month of the year record figures were registered in collection, sales and transfers.
From January to May of this year, the collection of national games reached $298.000 million COP (70.867.168 USD), which represents an increase of 22% if compared to the previous year. Last May alone, a collection of $62,000 million COP (14.744.177 USD) was reached, which means an increase of 30% when compared to the same period of 2021, when about $48,100 million COP (11.438.627 USD) were collected.
Of the total collection reported for the first five months of the year, it is highlighted that localized games (casinos and bingos) continue to make the largest contribution, reaching $124.000 million COP (29.488.354 USD).
Games operated by Internet remain in second place with a collection of $95.000 million COP (22.591.884 USD). Likewise, Baloto Revancha contributed $30.000 million COP (7.134.279 USD), Super Astro, $49.000 million COP (11.652.656 USD) and promotional games reached a collection of $1.871 million COP.
In the case of sales, Coljuegos revealed that, from January to May 2022, the figures continue to increase. Gross sales of national games reached $25 billion, which means a growth of 59 % in relation to the same period of the previous year, when sales of $15.7 billion were reported.
For this same period, localized games reported sales of close to $15 billion, while those of internet operated games were $9.6 billion. Additionally, Super Astro registered sales of $252.000 million COP (59.927.944USD) and those of Baloto Revancha were of $84.000 million COP.
Coljuegos highlighted that the incentive with immediate prize collection called Raspa y Listo continues to position itself in the regional markets as one of the most requested gambling modalities with the greatest impact, due to the established prize plans and the immediacy of its payments, exceeding sales projections by 168%.
"Gambling sector has consolidated as a fundamental reference in the strengthening of the national economy. The figures we are delivering are synonymous of the entrepreneurship, innovation and good practices that the sector has assumed to consolidate itself day after day", indicated the president of Coljuegos, César Valencia Galiano.
In this way, the newly elected President Petro receives a very healthy industry with a history of overcoming difficult moments, such as the one experienced during the pandemic. But, neither can we think of putting more taxes to stifle the operation of all entrepreneurs in the sector, since the industry comes from a key moment due to the closure of almost 200 days 2 years ago.
Additionally, Valencia highlighted that the businessmen, operators and the unions of this industry "are committed to make of the games of chance a referent sector of progress and social welfare for the Colombians", since the money collected by the established taxes are destined to the health system of the Colombian regions.
