The Czech Finance Ministry has proposed imposing a higher consumer tax on tobacco, spirits and gambling activities.
All gambling tax rates in the country are currently 23 percent of GGR, with the exception of a 35 percent tax on slot gambling machines. However, certain forms of gambling will see a tax increase from 23% to 25% or even 30%, the gambling activities that will suffer this raise hasn’t been defined yet.
The tax on cigarettes and tobacco will go up by 10 percent, and on spirits drinks by 13 percent.
The proposed hikes would increase state revenues by approximately 10 billion crowns a year. If approved the amendment to the law would come into effect as of January 2020.
