News about Las Vegas casino workers protesting against their work environment emerged amid multiple sexual harassment and sexual misconduct allegations against casino mogul Steve Wynn.
However just after a survey commissioned by the Las Vegas Culinary Union, it was found that 59% of all interviewed cocktail servers and 27% of all interviewed housekeepers have been harassed sexually by casino resorts guests, members of the management team or other individuals while at their workplace.
Therefore, there have been ongoing negotiations over the introduction of stronger safety and sexual harassment protections at the workplace with the owners of a total of 34 Strip and downtown Las Vegas casinos.
However, the negotiating parties have generally been failing to reach an accord for quite some time now.
And if the negotiations fall down, the workers have a plan b, after a citywide workers’ vote took place last week and of all 25,000 union voters who cast their vote, 99% approved a strike.
But this time more than 50,000 people could walk off their jobs in June in what would be the first major citywide workers’ strike since 1984 when workers staged continuous rallies that lasted for 67 days.
In the list of which casinos are negotiating with their labor force, are Caesars Entertainment Corp. and MGM Resorts International, and according to the labor union their negotiations would reach a happy end in the next days, between the proposal discussed includes safety buttons for workers attending to guest rooms. MGM has already provided housekeepers and other staff members with safety buttons. READ SO: CAESARS PALACE IN THE BORDER OF A CLIFF
