Arizona sports betting jumps 22.3% to US$663.9 million

Published date: 2026-08-20

Arizona’s regulated sports betting market closed June 2026 with a US$663.9 million handle, representing a 22.3% year-on-year increase, according to figures released on August 18, 2026 by the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG). The result confirms Arizona’s position as one of the most active sportsbook markets in the United States, despite a slight monthly decline from May, when wagering volume reached approximately US$676.6 million.

In June 2025, bettors wagered roughly US$543 million, leaving an increase of more than US$120 million over 12 months. Since the legal market launched on September 9, 2021, Arizona has accumulated close to US$36 billion in wagers and approximately US$193.7 million in event wagering privilege fees for the state. The June report also generated about US$3.1 million in privilege fees from event wagering, while fantasy sports contributed another US$86,860, bringing the combined total to approximately US$3.2 million.

The market is regulated by the Arizona Department of Gaming, led in August 2026 by Jackie Johnson, with Shannon Nelson serving as deputy director and head of Regulation & Racing, and John Mazza as deputy director of Operations. The ADG oversees licensing, compliance, monthly reporting, operators, fantasy sports and tribal gaming, and requires sportsbooks to report handle, winnings paid, promotional credits, adjusted gross receipts and privilege fees.

Arizona applies an approximate 10% rate on adjusted online sports betting revenue and 8% for retail wagering. The system allows up to 20 primary event wagering licenses and up to 10 limited licenses. Competition continues to expand.

On August 3, 2026, the ADG awarded an event wagering license to Circa Sports, partnered with the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe, while brands including BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, FanDuel, bet365, Bally Bet and Fanatics are part of the state’s regulated ecosystem.
