The national gambling regulator Spelinspektionen has reported that revenue from the regulated market rose 4.7% year-on-year to SEK6.3bn (€622m) for the third quarter. The figure was down 3 per cent compared to Q2.
Online betting and gambling revenue totalled SEK3.91bn, increasing by 5.4% year-on-year.
State lottery and land-based slot machine revenue was down 5.7% at SEK1.39bn, but Svenska Spel’s Casino Cosmopol chain of land-based casinos reported revenue for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic at SEK132m. Revenue from other land-based gaming venues including restaurant casinos fell 47 per cent to SEK47m.
Charitable lottery revenue rose 4.2% to SEK803m, while charity bingo game revenue fell 2 per cent to SEK46m. Spelinspektionen reported that 95 operators were active in Q3 and that 65,500 people were self-excluding via Spelpaus.
Sweden’s online casino restrictions, which included a SEK 5000 (€490) deposit limit and SEK100 limit on bonuses, came to an end on November 14, so all eyes will be on what impact that may have in the final quarter.
