In a landmark recognition of Indigenous governance and employee-centered leadership, the Cherokee Nation has been named one of Forbes 2025 America’s Best Large Employers. This is the third time the Nation has been recognized by Forbes, and notably the first in the “large employer” category, placing it among the most respected workplaces in the United States.

The accolade reflects the tribe’s unwavering commitment to fostering workplace dignity and economic opportunity across its institutions. Under the leadership of Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr., the Nation has implemented transformative workforce policies: a $15 minimum wage, paid family leave, and mental wellness leave—all while navigating economic challenges with stability and purpose.

“Our workforce reflects the heart of the Cherokee Nation,” said Hoskin. “This recognition belongs to every Cherokee citizen and employee who serves with integrity and care.”

The Forbes list is based on independent surveys of over 210,000 U.S. employees, evaluating compensation, advancement, inclusion, and workplace satisfaction. Cherokee Nation’s inclusion underscores the evolving role of tribal governments not only as cultural stewards, but as innovators in employment standards and community well-being.
As tribes continue to assert economic sovereignty, the Cherokee Nation offers a hopeful, credible blueprint for Native-led workforce excellence—where culture, compassion, and opportunity converge.
